Launching of LS2PAC Online Database Roadshow
August 20, LRC – The University of San Carlos is now privileged with a more advanced OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) System: the LS2PAC Online Database System.
The Launching of the LS2PAC Online Database Roadshow was held in the Josef Baumgartner Learning Resource Center (JB – LRC) on the 20th Day of August, 2013. The LS2PAC is easily accessible and is very resourceful for school work and research. This new online database system aids students in accessing specific books and topics. 
During the launching, six different systems were introduced: EBSCO, Cengage Learning, iGroup, American Corner and KDC, Science Direct/Scoups and MegaTExt Phils. The different systems may be accessed through the ISMIS Account that each Carolinian has, at home through the library website (library.usc.edu.ph), iPhones, iPod touch and android phones. The online databases are accessible on most devices 24/7 online.
EBSCO has been in the University since 2007. . EBSCO Discovery service offers an accessible research engine where students can research on different topics. It also offers an Advanced Search engine. EBSCO is able to offer users an option to email documents to family, friends, and even one’s self for storage. Users are also given the privilege to download audio files of a document. Audio files come in any language. .Foreign Students can view EBSCO in their native tongue, which makes it an easy access for them. It offers academic studies and the latest and most-relevant information. EBSCO is also accessible on ISMIS.
Cengage Learning specializes in print and digital information services. . They will soonlaunch National Geographic Magazines on their website. Science Direct/Scoups offers journals, articles and a bibliographic database.
iGroup is accessible in four different websites: ProQuest offers topics on Science, Social Science, Nursing, Languages and Literature, Business, etc., Springer offers journals which can be downloaded, printed and emailed, ACM; offers different topics on the field of engineering, and iG Publishing offers different eBooks focusing on Asian Studies, Business and Management, Humanities, etc.
American Corner and KDC is accessible to different topics that focuses more on different information on U.S. politics, education, economics, literature, social sciences, etc . The main American Corner is funded by the American Embassy and can be found at the Downtown Campus. KDC (Knowledge for Development Center) is a research program funded by the World Bank that can be used to do research on education, environment, politics, government, etc. It is free and open to the public; Thus, Non-Carolinian students may be able to access this service. A section in the KDC provides current news and events in a specific country. However, this is not available on ISMIS.
Megatext Phils. is a system where videos on different topics and subjects can be downloaded and used for classroom activities, demonstrations, and reports. The videos being offered are comprehensible, educational, and entertaining. The audio is very audible and gives a clear description. When video is being viewed, description is offered on the side.
All these systems areoffered in the library website and can be viewed in “Electronic Resources,” tab. InISMIS website, the systems may be accessed under the tab “Journal References.” The University website also offers the same access point.LS2PAC makes it easier for students to do research and school work. It is faster and accessible, and saves students plenty of time searching up on different books in library shelves.
