Performing Arts Group Inspires with a Christmas Concert

The University of San Carlos Choristers and Symphonic Band showcased their individual talents and passion for music in a Christmas concert held at the Northwing, SM City Cebu last Dec. 9, 2018. The concert, entitled “Giving Love: The Real Meaning of Christmas”, was attended by family and friends of both the Choristers and the Symphonic Band.
The concert began with a performance of composer, Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival, led by the USC Symphonic Band and conducted by Maestro Roberto G. del Rosario. After which, they were joined on stage by the USC Choristers, who performed a number of classic Filipino, English, and Cebuano holiday songs. Crowds gathered around the venue to witness the extraordinary talents of the performing arts group.
In the later part of the show, the Choristers were accompanied by three soloists who were former personnel members of the club. in previous years. The musical concert also featured a special performance from a church-based choir. Finally, the show ended with closing remarks from Fr. Jun Rebayla, Jr., SVD who congratulated the performing arts group on a wonderful performance and a successful event. He also expressed that giving love, in whatever form, must not only be centered on the holiday season but extended throughout the whole year.
At 54 years old, the USC Symphonic Band is the oldest existing university symphonic band in the country. With the help of its founding and current members, it was able to move forward and serve its purpose as an ambassador of good will. Meanwhile, the USC Choristers, founded in 1965, just celebrated their 50th anniversary last 2015 and is currently the 2nd oldest university choir in the entire country. Recognized locally and internationally, both groups aim to promote cultural awareness and foster appreciation of fine arts among students.
