Sinulog 2016 Grand Parade Winners
For us Cebuanos the month of January may just as well be a synonym for the mother of all festivals— Sinulog! In celebration, Cebu City held activities from December 1, 2015 leading up to the culmination on January 17, highlighted by a grand parade after Sunday mass.
To spice up the festivities the city also prepared several competitions, one of which was the grand parade, easily claiming the top spot in Sinulog’s array of competitions with 127 participants. The three main categories along with their sub categories were: Free-Interpretation Category (Musicality, Best in Costume, Ritual Showdown), Sinulog Based Category (Musicality, Best in Costume, RItual Showdown) and the Street Dancing Category (Street Dance, Float, Higante, Puppeteers, On Site Decor, Visual Merchendising).
The winners of the categories were as follows: Sinulog Based Category (Musicality – TANGUB CITY’S SINANDULOY CULTURAL TROUPE, Best in Costume – KULTURANG PLACEREÑO (MASBATE DANCE COMPANY), RItual Showdown – KULTURANG PLACEREÑO (MASBATE DANCE COMPANY)), Free-Interpretation Category (Musicality, Best in Costume and Ritual Showdown – LAND OF BEAUTY AND BOUNTY (PROV. OF LANAO DEL NORTE)) and the Street Dancing Category (Street Dance – BUYOGAN FESTIVAL–TRIBU BUYOGANON, Float – BUYOGAN FESTIVAL–TRIBU BUYOGANON, Higante – H–09 MAGLALAWIG (MAGELLAN), Puppeteers – P–08 NIÑO RUBEN N. MATEO, On Site Decor – GLOBAL BUSINESS POWER CORPORATION, Visual Merchandising – GAISANO CAPITAL SOUTH).
The winners, aside from their title and pride, also went home with cash prizes the largest being the Ritual Showdown of both the Free-Interpretation and the Sinulog-Based Category amounting to 1 million pesos each. This goes to show how much we Cebuanos value the sprit and the culture of our beloved Sinulog Festival. Viva Pit Señor!
