SSC Holds Grand Rally in USC-TC

The first day of the Grand Rally happened at the USC-Talamban Campus Bunzel Canteen on Feb. 27, 2017. All the councilors and their presidential candidates from the three electoral parties, Tingog Carolinian, Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (STAND), and Student Power Party (SPP), were present. The event was organized by the USC Commission on Elections for the USC Supreme Student Council (SSC) candidates to present their platforms and views on issues in the university.
The first portion of the grand rally began with the introductory speech from each candidate of the three parties. The candidates were given a chance to present their achievements and what they can offer to the Carolinians if given seats in the SSC. They backed up their statements with their prior achievements and credentials.
A forum was opened to those present in the event for the candidates. Discussed were, among others, the administration of the SSC, clarifications of certain platforms, concerns within the university such as discrimination and student oppression, and the Magna Carta of Students’ Rights, among others.
The vice presidential and presidential candidates for each party were also given their turn to present their advocacies and platforms to the audience. Forums were opened for each set of candidates.
In the forum with the vice presidential candidates, concerns regarding tuition fee increase, issues with the LGBT community in the university and cultural diversity were discussed. The presidential candidates were met with questions regarding presidential obligations, in-depth explanations of the platforms presented by each party, problems encountered from previous administrations and others. Also, the candidates highlighted their accomplishments prior to running for their positions in the SSC
The event ultimately served as an invitation for the Carolinians to vote during the SSC Elections on March 2.
