USC Days Opening 2013
The very first day one of this year’s much awaited Intramurals gathered students at the USC Main Gym (Anselmo Bustos Sports Complex) in a much earlier time than previous Intramurals.
Carolinians were already in the school premises at approximately 5:00 o’clock in the morning and were ready to belt out their cheers for their colleges. This year, students came bearing balloons, face paint, tarpaulins, and other signages signifying each of their college’s united efforts to prepare and support their representatives.
At 8 am, the Intramurals Opening Ceremony officially started with a parade of colors by the USC Warriors followed by a dance number by the USC Dance Troupe to round up the crowd before anything else. The crowd cheered in unison; a showcase of pure camaraderie among all Carolinians before getting their game on and individually cheering for their colleges.
The candidates for Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2013 then paraded through the gym together with their respective college athletes on their tails as each of their college was being called for recognition. The parade of different colleges was as follows: The College of Education (COEd), School of Law and Governance (SLG), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA), School of Healthcare and Professions (SHCP), School of Business and Economics (SBE) and finally the College of Engineering (CoE).
The USC Mr. and Ms. Intramurals competition then followed with each of the college’s best bet smiling their widest with their most elegant poses as they try to outplay each other. They walked with poise around the court and wooed the crowd and the judges with their words and smiles. After a short intermission, the results for Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2013 were announced.
The College of Engineering Mr. Intramurals representative, Benedict Ocariza and the College of Arts and Sciences Ms. Intramurals representative, Juanita Romualdez placed Second runner up. Followed by College of Arts and Sciences Mr. Intramurals representative, Timothy Gigante and School of Law and Governance Ms. Intramurals representative, Vanda Dayagbil. And announced together with the crowd’s yells, this year’s crowned Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2013 are both from the School of Business and Economics. Mr. Intramurals 2013, AJ Dela Calzada and Ms. Intramurals 2013, Denesse Ann Rebadomia.
To officially start the cheer dance competitions, a ceremonial toss was being initiated by Fr. Bucia, Vice President for Administration, with some athlete representatives of the different colleges. The cheer dancers and their different dance routines were filled with energetic execution, appalling stunts and fine choreography. Their grueling practices and months of sacrifice paid off their presentations were being executed earlier today. The different colleges have even stepped up brushing off creativity on their uniform costumes allowing their different colleges to distinguish them from the others.
The cheer dance Grand Showdown followed after all the entries performed their routines. The Grand Showdown presented a unified dance number also highlighting a freestyle portion for each of the colleges to do their thing. It was followed by a performance by the USC dance club, presenting a more Hip-Hop feel to the Carolinian audience, also while allowing the judges to deliberate on which college wins this year’s cheer dance competitions.
A spectacular display of sportsmanship ensued as the teams have given their best. They did not fail to stun the crowd. The emcees announced the winners for this year’s cheer dance competition. The second runner up went to the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA), for giving twist to their usual cheer dance mix and execution. The first runner up went to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), with their clean and crisp stunts and energy-packed dance routines. And finally this year’s Champions for Cheer dance 2013, winning the hearts of the different colleges together with a standing ovation and the loudest cheers from all over the gymnasium, the almighty, School of Business and Economics (SBE).
