USC Holds Hult Prize Boot Camp

To kick off the Hult Prize initiative, the University of San Carlos (USC)-Supreme Student Council (SSC), along with the School of Business and Economics Council spearheaded the Hult Starter Boot Camp yesterday in the Theodore Buttenbruch Hall.
As part of the On-Campus program of the Hult Prize challenge, the workshop was held to equip the participants with what they would need in order to join the competition. Moreover, it aimed to aide the participants in coming up with their own business pitches to alleviate youth unemployment.
According to Hult Prize On-Campus Director and incumbent SSC Councilor, Kimberly Candice Lim, “It is also for people who have not decided yet if they want to join or not, so they can know more about it before they make a decision.”
The workshop placed emphasis on key points to remember in coming up with an ideal business plan including heightening awareness on youth unemployment, social entrepreneurship and creating a business proposal.
Co-Founder of Youth for Livable Cebu (YLC), Francis Sollano, pointed out that business ideas do not have to be big and idealistic. Instead, it can be simple, but must always be sustainable.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) presented data on the country’s level of unemployment pointing out how further technological advancement may affect these figures.
Lastly, Dr. Anna Marie Baloran, a professor from the USC Business Administration Department explained the technicalities of making your own business proposal.
The Hult Starter Boot Camp is only the first step in taking on the challenge of changing the world by resolving youth unemployment.
Deadline for registration will be on Feb. 5. As for the competition proper, it will take place at USC Downtown campus on Feb. 9, 2019.
