USC SYBEE Holds Nostalgia 2018

The University of San Carlos Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs (SYBEE) of the university’s Department of Business Administration held Nostalgia concert 2018 last Oct. 14, 2018 at the IEC Convention Center. Nostalgia 2018 is the department’s acquaintance party and also served as a donation drive for the victims of the Naga landslide. The concert’s main performers were Bisrock band Phylum, Manila-based all-Cebuano band Cueshée and Spongecola.
Before the concert started, Today’s Carolinian managed to interview former Barangay Tinaan Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman Janna Mae Lapitan. She gave updates on the situation of the evacuees in Naga, stating that the supplies they in the centers are adequate enough for the evacuees. She also stated that in all the eight evacuation centers in the city of Naga, there are stay-in and stay-out evacuees, the former being those who go out of the center during the day and come back at night. According to Lapitan, APO had sent a petition to the Local Government Unit of Naga to ask clearance as they had observed an enlargement of a once-tiny crack, to which the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) considered as not a threat.
In a brief interview before their respective performances, Today’s Carolinian managed to ask the bands about their plans, updates and advice to the up and coming artists of Cebu and the rest of the Philippines.
When asked about their experience on Bisaya Music Festival, a recently held musical festival in Cebu, Phylum responded with, “Nindot. Nice siya kay bisa’g first-time to pero daghan na ug tao. [It was nice. Although it was a first-time event, quite a lot of people attended it.]” The band was one of the huge number of Cebuano artists lined up to perform in the recently held music festival.
The band was also asked on for their advice towards aspiring and new musicians in Cebu, to which they responded with, “Padayon lang. Tigom ug kwarta para practice. Pag compose ug kanta. Kay kanang mga showbands, pakpakan na sila kay mahinumdoman sa mga tao ang original singers. [Just keep going. Save up money for band practice. Compose your own songs. Showbands are applauded only because the people remember the original singers.
When asked the same question, all-Cebuano and Manila-based band Cueshée responded with, “If you do it as a profession, you think of it as a job. If you do it as past-time, you’re better off finishing school. But if you do it for passion, you learn to have patience. No matter how talented you are, if you do not have the patience, you won’t get anywhere.”
