The University of San Carlos – Theater Guild conducted a press conference, intended to promote their 40th anniversary production titled, “Handurawan”, last today in the Theodore Buttenbruch Hall in USC – Downtown campus. The said event was graced by the presence of their various media sponsors, such as DYFR, Prism, Freeman, CCTN and Brigada.
To give the guests a glimpse of what the play is all about, a video trailer, as well as an excerpt, was presented live by the actors. Handurawan, which is patterned on the theme of wisdom, is directed by Jaime Vicente Omolon II and Kreznev Ligas with the help of their production manager, Gladie Grace Mayol.
Members of the cast then introduced themselves and the characters they will be portraying. The rest of the time was allotted for the press to ask their questions regarding the play and the whole production itself. Queries from both radio and tabloid representatives were answered by either the actors or the directors.
When asked for a brief background on Handurawan, the directors began by defining the title itself. “Handurawan means imagination, vision or dreams.”
The play was said to be composed of three Filipino stories, translated to the Cebuano language, which include: Isang Dangkal na Gunita by Rafael Pulmano, Bubungang Lata by Agapito Joaquin and Ang Pipit by Jason Mondragon.
“Handurawan”, according to one of the actors, “is the first Cebuano play nga among buhaton since 2011.” The directors also said that the reason for translating these scripts into our native language is to “promote the Bisaya language or ang atong pagkabisdak.”
The production targets students, from both the secondary and tertiary levels, to be their audience as they stage Handurawan this Sept. 5 and 6 in SM Cinema One.
