Shell ECO Marathon Opening Event

The Collegiate Engineering Council (CEC), the highest governing council in the School of Engineering, launched and orchestrated a program titled the “Shell Mobility Week 2016” in the Lawrence Bunzel building, which lasted Jan. 11 to 15. The event was meant to herald the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2016, an international competition among several Asian countries where schools and universities compete with one another in the designing, manufacturing and testing of fuel-efficient “green” go-karts.
The goal of the marathon is not to race to the finish line, but to travel the farthest distance with the least amount of fuel consumed. The winner of the marathon will be whichever go-kart that manages to have the highest kilometers per liter traveled. The University of San Carlos will be represented by two teams: Team Handos Sugbo 2 and Team Lahutay 4, the former using gasoline as their source of fuel and the other, diesel.
As such, the Shell Mobility Week 2016 was kickstarted by a motorcade that, despite initial delays, managed to make it from the portal, all round campus and back to the Bunzel building. Over the next few days, the CEC hosted a variety of creative games such as “The Room”, “Miniature Car Making”, “Miniature Car Races” and the Goldberg Machine-making Competition of the “Domino Effect”, all for the hype of the marathon.
