The Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs (SYBEE) held the Table of HOPE (Honesty and Peace) with children from Labangon and Sambag II yesterday from 8:00 a.m. to noon inside the Barangay Labangon Gymnasium.
The event was held in partnership with JCI Cebu, and with the help of other sponsors and organizations, namely the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP), University of Cebu, Arbee’s Bakeshop, Wyeth Nutrition, and the SUL Company.
The event started with a prayer and a national anthem. The kids were then asked to get to know each other, and were told a story. After this, they were given coloring books and crayons, with the facilitators asking them to color and share their favourite page.
A speaker from BCBP talked to the kids about honesty and asked them about what they already knew about it, earning replies like, “Honesty is the best policy.” There was a short presentation from a SYBEE member after this, followed by a song from the group.
As the kids were playing a game, the special guests — the JCI National Board, headed by the National JCI President Steve Tychangco, the National Chairperson for Peace is Possible, Daryl Bihag, and the JCI President Paschal Dike, a microbiologist from Nigeria — arrived.
JCI President Dike thanked the people who made the event possible and told the kids that they should believe that they are the most intelligent and honest students in the world. He also made the kids promise to respect their teachers, parents, and one another.
The event ended with the ceremonial giving of school kits to the children and lunch provided by the organizers.
