SSC elects officers for CSO, presents upcoming programs

Officers of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) and representatives from various student organizations assembled at Rigney Hall, University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus on May 25 to elect new sets of officers for the Conglomeration of Student Organizations (CSO).
Apart from the election of officers for CSO, the current SSC councilors also presented an overview of the proposed projects and programs that they plan to carry out during the course of the academic year.
The newly elected CSO officers are as follows: Jan Rommel Duterte of CHEMSA as chairman of CSO, Rizza Amper of CRASS as general secretary, Alex Bajarias of SYBEE and Daryl Abocot of JFINEX as deputy chairs for Downtown Campus, John Jay Batulan of SED Council as deputy chair for South Campus, and finally, Charmainne Campaña of CEC and Jodie Cadampog of USC-JPMAP as deputy chairs for Talamban Campus.
Former CSO chairman Roy Cudias presented the mission and vision of CSO, with a focus on a unified Carolinian identity, the acknowledgement of different student organizations, conducting forums for the discussion and concurring of ideas, helping SSC to implement its activities, and establishing the needs of the organizations through needs assessment.
Now on its third year, CSO plans to establish its rules and procedures, gather the heads of student organizations and hold a formal launching of the conglomeration.
Conforming to CSO’s purpose of unifying the student body, SSC president Bret Balbuena stressed the importance of working toward a collective gain and bringing the brand of USC to a higher level.
Moreover, SSC vice president Janet Dawn Abines said that there is a need for a conglomeration because the student organizations are the main grass roots for the students to participate, therefore being vital to the success of the university.
Before the meeting came to a close, SSC councilor Deodatus Paulo Burgos emphasized in his talk the three significant activities to be done in June, in particular the Carolinian Summit, Week of Welcome for the incoming freshmen, and the final drafting of the Magna Carta for students’ rights.
