To Wisdom
In the beginning was the Word,
And the Word was with God,
And the Word was God. – John 1:11
To the speaking voice
The one who spoke
From the beginning of time
And who unceasingly speaks,
The one who, in the depths of our loneliness
And desperation
And longing for redemption,
Comes singing and bringing with her
The promise of light and peace
If only we listen
I write to you today.
For society has put you
On such high pedestal and yet
Mistake you for a mere thing to be read
A set of rules and written guidelines
A book, a decoration,
A thing to put aside whenever we please.
To the wisdom
And the source of moral authority
Who stands
On the top of the high places
By the way in the places of the paths
Who asks us to kneel down in silence
And to search within our troubled hearts
The things that we barely understand,
You are quick and powerful
And your words
Pierce through the heart but
We are blinded by self-righteousness
And have become deaf to your calling.
We long for you, dear wisdom
To acquaint us with misfortunes
To break us as you may
To humble
Then, to come
To teach
To comfort
To make our paths straight
To mend what is broken.
We ask of you,
Dear wisdom,
To not conceal yourself
To not grow impatient
Out of our stubbornness.
For it is out of your voice
That we come to understand
It is with your touch
That we are enlightened and healed.
Shed a light on us, mere wanderers
Of this earth that you fill
With your enduring voice,
Help us unveil your beauty amidst
Our tribulations and
Our egos’ noise.
