Update on the Dorm Water Supply

The water supply problem in the USC Dormitories remains unsolved. To supply water to the residents, USC needs to order water drams from MRE Water Supply-Talamban. An estimated budget of Php 14,000 per order is to be spent to supply water for only 24 hours. Fire trucks are aiding in supplying water, but this still proves insufficient.

Engr. Edgar Arseno, plumbing engineer of USC, said that it was first assumed that the pump has been dysfunctional. Since it is automatic, it overheats when the water supply is limited due to many users. The pump was already replaced; however, when the Water Resource Center (WRC) visited the area for investigation, they found that the dormitory was already facing a scarcity from the deep well water source. He even added that the ongoing construction within USC-TC, especially the USC Stadium, probably contributed to this crisis.

This is the first time USC Dormitory experienced this problem.

Due to the current situation, dorm residents reportedly caught illnesses due to the intermittent water supply on most buildings. There have been five cases of dengue and two cases of typhoid fever. To address this issue, the Dormitory Office contacted personnel to do fogging on the buildings last August, but many dormers also complained of this act since they were not informed beforehand. However, the Dormitory Office said that they already made announcing measures but admitted that they failed to contact all dormers.

According to one dormer, there is now a schedule on the availability of water. However, the problem may still continue for two months.

Dorm residents are currently advised to transfer to find lodgings outside the campus for the meantime while this problem has not yet been solved.
