USC hosts TAYO Talk, search for TAYO 12 begins
USC student organizations now have another goal to vie for this year – the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) awards.
The TAYO Talk, organized by TAYO Awards Foundation Inc. in partnership with USC–Pathways, was held in Hoeppener Hall, Robert Hoeppener Bldg. in the University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus last Friday.
The TAYO Awards Foundation Inc. is an award-giving body that recognizes exceptional youth organizations all over the Philippines.
The event was hosted by James de Vera, a program officer of TAYO. Solidarity messages were given by several people like Pam de Leon of Coca-Cola Foundation, and Jig Juris Morrondoz and actor Jose Sixto Raphael “Dingdong” Dantes of the National Youth Commission (NYC).
Mechanics for Search for TAYO 12 were discussed in the talk along with the requirements for aspiring youth organizations to vie for the prestigious award.
Speakers hailing from TAYO awardee organizations gave testimonies where they explained the purpose of their organization’s projects, their beneficiaries and stories behind the work towards their project’s fulfillment.
Sean Policarpio from UP Cebu SEALNet Entrepreneurs Club, a TAYO awardee last 2008, shared about his organization’s prized project, “Gubat Batok Bitok (War Against Gastrointestinal Worms)” in which they taught sanitary practices and gave deworming pills to children from different public schools like Alaska Mambaling Elementary School, Lahug Elementary School, and Camp Lapu-lapu Elementary School .
Rex Villavelez from Pag-asa Youth Association (PYA) Talisay City Chapter explained how their Ground Permeability Enhancer (GPE) worked to alleviate flooding in areas with soil impermeable to water.
Other organizations such as Rescue Assistance Peacekeeping Intelligence Detail, Inc. (RAPID), SUPACA and USC-Pathways discussed their plans and future projects with the audience.
The talk ended with audio-visual presentation messages from Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam Aquino”, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and Maria Cecilia Alcantara, president of Coca-cola Foundations Philippines who each shared their sentiments about the youth.
