USC Quiz Bowl Competition 2015

The Athletics Department of the university collaborated with the Carolinian Political Science Society (CPSS) and partnered with the USC LEX Circle hosted the Quiz Bowl Competition 2015 at the Albert van Gansewinkel Hall in the Downtown Campus last Sept. 26, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
A pair of students from each school – School of Business and Economics (SBE), School of Law and Governance (SLG), School of Healthcare Profession (SHCP), School of Engineering (SOE), School of Education (SED), School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Design (SAFAD), and School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) – represented their respective school for the competition.
The quiz bowl was divided into three categories: an easy, moderate, and difficult round,with 15 questions worth one point, 10 questions worth three points and 10 questions worth five points, respectively. The questions,given by random persons from different schools,were takenfrom general knowledge in areas such as Arts, History, Philippine Literature, Current Events, Entertainment, and Sports. The quizmaster roster consisted of Philip Hope Mamugay for Arts and Current Events, Christian Ray Licen for Philippine Literature, Jasmine Owacanfor Entertainment and Julian Macoy for Sports.The quizmasters have been deemed experts in their respective fields and given the authority to overrule a decision if any of the participants would contest their answers to the questions.
Ralph Gonzales, a representative of SBE, won first place garnering an overall score of 50 points. 2nd place was tied for by Glenn Rabor of SLG and Juleos Adam Lopez of SHCP with 39 points each. Two clincher rounds were performed in order to break the tie,after whichRabor defeatedLopez with a one point difference. Rabor and Lopezwere awarded as 2nd and 3rd placers, respectively.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd placers will be the ones who will represent USC for the CESAFI Quiz Bowl Competitionin the second semester; schedule is to be announced.
