USC SSC holds 7th Regular Session

The USC Supreme Student Council (SSC) held their 7^th regular session at the SSC office at USC Downtown Campus, from 6 to 9 p.m.. This was done to discuss certain school activities and events in store for the upcoming 2^nd semester. In attendance were several guests from the different collegiate councils, fellow students, and speakers from the University of the Philippines.

The session started with a prayer led by Councilor Norch Van Honoridez followed by a roll call of the council through the Secretary General. An approval of the 6^th regular and special session’s minutes were passed before the committee reports.

There were 5 reports coming from each committee, some of which were plans on partnering with Monster Radio for upcoming events, promotion of Herry Ahn Photo Studios, proposal for an evaluation of activities by the previous administration to provide insights on next activities, participating in an online journalism course, and a blood donation drive among others.

Afterwards, the speakers from UP Cebu were given the floor to present their agendas. Sir Patrick Torres, former USC SSC councilor and current UP instructor, asked for collaborations between the SSC and the Movement against Tyranny (MAT) organization, composed of coalitions of NGO’s, Church organizations, and different academes which aims to fight against the growing violence and mistreatment done by the government, to educate people of human rights, and to avoid the demonization of drug addicts. They also organize open forums and joint activities to promote and educate people of human rights. They appealed to the SSC to have future partnerships due to SSC’s activities being in line with their advocacy. A motion was then approved for collaborations with MAT.

Another speaker was Dionne Cabaños, a 4^th year Mass Comm student from UP, who asked the SSC for partnerships in their upcoming event, the UP cookout. She asked if they could set up a booth in the event of School Caravan, where they can sell merchandise, and asked help from the SSC to help spread the UP cookout so Carolinians can also come to the event.

In addition, Miss Ann Daniel Gomez from USC Comelec gave updates on the fuss of election period between the transition period towards the trimester system. She also stated the importance of educating the Carolinians of the Constitutional Convention that is to be done between the transition period. This aims to educate the students of the rights and other constitutional basis covering the university.

After all the speakers had their say, the council proceeded to 5 resolutions that were to be approved. Several councilors proposed of activities like a Christmas exhibit, donation drive for Christmas, having CLAYGO stubs as a reinforcement of the CLAYGO program, having a Carolinian series – Poetry Nights, Acoustic Sessions, and Movie Nights – for students’ relaxation, and creating a Peace and Equality Week. Other matters were further discussed as the meeting was proceeding adjournment.
