USC-SSC Holds Third Special Session
The USC Supreme Student Council (SSC) held their third special session at the SSC Office located in the Downtown Campus last June 7, 2017. The session took place to propose resolutions for the start of academic year 2017-2018.
The special session began with a privilege speech by Joelia Lee Yu. Afterwards, Marius Aragon was invited as a guest speaker to promote Amnesty International, an organization that boosts one’s understanding of human rights.
The council then discussed the main agenda, which is the proposal of the resolutions made by select members of the council.
The first resolution is to implement youth engagements in spirituality by Van Honoridez.
The second resolution discussed was the making of the Complaints, Grievances and Investigation (CGI) chair as administrator of SSC’s online pages. This was proposed by Niveno Ocdinaria. During the proposal, the council discussed the ways on how the complaints and grievances of the students will be solved in a centralized procedure.
The third resolution was the amendment of the house rules and procedures, which was also proposed by Ocdinaria. The house rules and procedures are further discussed by SSC President Deodatus Burgos with entire council working together in revising the house rules and procedures.
The next resolution was the establishment of the petty cash fund, which was proposed by Lee Yu.
The fifth resolution in the agenda was the resolution of re-affirming the partnership between the USC-SSC and Uber, which was also proposed by Lee Yu. With this strengthened partnership, there will be a student discount and will have a PHP 50.00 travel promo, although the details are still to be announced.
Afterwards, Ocdinaria discussed the dropping of the salutation “honorable” in all official documents, letters, and other pertinent papers of all officers. As of this writing, the term has then been dropped.
Lyka Galeos proposed her resolution of reinforcing the CLAYGO system, and the #BeLikeCarlos campaign in the university, which help promote clean disposal system within the campus areas.
The next resolution was proposed by Clare Inso, which focuses on the purchase of office materials.
The next resolution on the agenda was proposed by Jodi Tio. This resolution aims to conduct a bootcamp on project management in partnership with UNIVCEBU. This is to give emphasis on effective student leadership. In addition to this, Christian De Los Santos, auditor of Junior Personnel Management Association of the Philippines (JPMAP), was invited as a guest to help collaborate with the USC-SSC in their socio-cultural activities planned within the academic year.
Lastly, Lyka Galeos proposed a resolution on reinstituting the Student Ecological Movement, which promotes environment literacy among Carolinian students.
To conclude the session, updates of the upcoming Carolinian Summit and Week of Welcome were discussed by the council.
