USC-SSC launches WoW 2016

University of San Carlos-Supreme Student Council, in collaboration with different student organizations, launched this year’s Week of Welcome (WoW) with the theme “Kasadya” on June 13 to 16 at the different campuses: Downtown Campus (DC), Talamban Campus (TC) and South Campus (SC).
According to Kristian Pajanonot, the main proponent of WoW, it served as a welcoming event as students enter another school year and was aimed at instilling in them the Carolinian culture. Furthermore, the said theme was chosen because it would best describe what SSC envisions the academic year to be: fun, colourful, vibrant and dynamic.
Pajanonot added that WoW’s purpose was to empower and mobilize the different student organizations and to demonstrate their mission and vision for the academic year.
The week-long celebration officially started with an opening mass presided by Rev. Fr. Roger Bag-ao, SVD at the Bunzel Lobby in TC and Fr. Jun Balay, SVD at the Wrocklage Yard in DC.
Different activities were prepared for the whole week namely Harana and WoW Take the Mic, WoW movies, Student Organization Booth Fair, Bangga sa Banggiitan and Pasigarbo sa USC.
Harana and WoW Take the Mic was a way of entertaining the students who were exploring the different booths of the student organizations through reciting poetry, singing or dancing. For other students who had free time, they watched movies in various audio-visual rooms: Rigney Hall, RH AVR and SAS AVR at TC and the Theodore Buttenbruch Hall at DC.
To acquaint the students with the organizations in the university, each SO has set up a booth to feature what that organization is about. Awarded as the Most Punctual booth was the Chemical Engineering Council in TC, the Carolinian Economics Society in DC and the Montessori Students Organization in SC. The Most Interactive booth was Dynacom in TC, Safety First in DC and the Montessori Students Organization in SC.
The People’s Choice Award went to Electrical Engineering Council in TC, Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs in DC and the Society of Education Students Organization in SC. Lastly, the crowned champion was the Electrical Engineering Council in TC, the Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs in DC, and the School of Education Council in SC.
The Bangga sa Banggiitan gathered teams of three from the different departments of the university at the Bunzel Lobby. The quiz bowl covered questions from general knowledge and academics. Team Victoria’s Secret and Team Helium from the Department of Chemistry ranked 2nd runner up and 1st runner up, respectively and Team Sophia from the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies was crowned champion.
The celebration came into conclusion through the most awaited event of the WoW, which was the Pasigarbo sa USC. This aimed to present the different schools of the university: School of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Health Care Professions, School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Design, School of Education, School of Business and Economics, and the School of Law and Governance.
Representatives of each school and the different student performers showcased their talents with the aim of making every Carolinian embrace the diversity within USC.
For the performances, SSC organized a recruitment of performers for pre-show through the student organizations.
SSC councilor Honey Babe Tagalog said that the students and SO’s have been participative for this year’s WoW. She further added that the event was intended to hype the organizations through the activities aligned with Kasadya.
