The annual USC Warriors Run took place in the University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus last August 19, 2017.
Other than the official opening of USC Days which will be on August 22 , the run is also considered as an auxiliary opening for the week-long event. The run consisted of three categories: 3k, 5k and 10k.
The event was open to all students, faculty, alumni and staff. Since Senior High School students were required to run, a turnout of around 2,000 runners were summed up.
USC Warriors Run was spearheaded by Deodatus Burgos, president of the University of San Carlos – Supreme Student Council (USC-SSC) and Joelia Lee Yu, a councilor. Along with USC – SSC were the Carolinian Volunteers and a number of student organizations.
Out of three main objectives, Mr. Burgos highlighted the run’s unifying aspect since according to him, “It is very unique because it is unusual to hold a run inside the campus. Only Carolinians can do that.”
The fun run event was also acknowledged as a Community Extension Service (CES) activity since it is for a cause. According to Burgos, the net profit of Warriors Run will be utilized for a scholarship grant for a chosen Senior High School student.
At around 5 a.m., the timer for the 10k category started and soon after, the 5k and 3k runners followed. The route for 5k and 10k began at Gate 2, going up to the SVD Retreat House and as for 3k, it passed by the Michael Richartz (MR) Building and School of Architecture and Fine Arts (SAFAD) uilding.
The event was concluded through a Zumba cool down and awarding of winners at the BCT. The Barrio Fiesta which was sponsored by the USC Administration was also there to cater to the festivities.
When interviewed after the event, Burgos emphasized the event’s success saying, “It did not rain and the number of runners was larger than that last year’s.”
For the next activities of USC – SSC, Mr. Burgos plans to gather more ideas to be able to accommodate the interest of the Carolinians.
