The USC Department of Business Administration, the Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs (SYBEE) with the help of PRODIGY launches its 1st Entrepreneurs’ Boot Camp with the theme Emerging Business Opportunities: A Facet for a Successful Venture, last Friday at the Wrockledge Yard, USC Downtown Campus. The boot camp was a two-day event that encompasses a series of talks, lectures and workshops for young entrepreneur students and some students from the departments of Industrial and Computer Engineering.
Ms. Joyce Natalie Yang, the chairman of the Business Administration Department, stated during her welcome address that the aim of the boot-camp is to help and guide young entrepreneurs for the challenges and undertakings in business. The idea of having a boot camp started last year and was conceived this year by the entrepreneurs’ council, according to Mr. Roberto H. Visitacion, DBA. Other objectives were to facilitate business students by engaging them to lectures and group activities with the end goal of forming mutual relationships between other colleges for business partnerships and bringing forth ideas in order to create good results in business.
The location was changed to Theodore Buttenbruch hall after the introductory remarks where two guest speakers shared some of their experiences in business. The first speaker, Mr. Arnel Pahang of PruLife UK, shared the 13 principles of financial success. He based his explanations to real-life situations in which he too had undergone. Mr. Pahang emphasized in his talk about dreams, and how we should not stop believing in them. The next speaker was Mr. Kazu Onozawa of Spectrum and the creator of Rhipstop, a Cebu-based clothing and lifestyle brand. His presentation was about discovering opportunities and ideas of the business generation in three aspects: product creativity, design and imagination. He said that young as we are, we must try to do and accomplish something each day never wasting a single minute.
The students actively engaged themselves into the workshop proper during the afternoon session which was facilitated by the Business Administration faculty. It ended with the submission of their final outputs. The next day concluded with the announcement of deliberation, presentation of the business model concept and the awarding ceremony for the winning groups.
The boot camp also showcased various products of USC Kapamilya Negosyo Na (KNN) from home-made peanut butter to organic candles, shampoos and antibiotic soaps. Food and beverage booths such as cakes, pastries, juices and fruit shakes made by young entrepreneurs, clothes apparel from Julie’s Bakeshop, and other services from Smart Telecommunications. The different booths presented aims to inspire young entrepreneurs to venture into their own chosen businesses.
