Honeydrop in the Local Indie Music Scene

Local music is one of the things Cebuanos clutch to. The local music scene has been expanding as the years go by. Cebuanos save the dates for any music event in their local area just to see their favorite local bands perform, or perhaps just go to treat themselves to a new genre, one of them is the local indie music scene.
Local indie bands are known to perform behind the shadows. The local indie music scene is not heavily advertised, but luckily, indie music events help attract listeners on a local scale who want to indulge indie genre, especially the locals who belong to the 16-30 age bracket.
A formed target market helps with the formation of indie music events around the city, which gives the chance for local indie bands to be recognized. This results to some bands being categorized as obscure, and some bands becoming bare towards the local music scene. Famous or not famous, local indie bands do not make it a competition to see who is best, but they perform and help share their sounds to the Cebuanos.
Thankfully, more local indie bands are being recognized through concerts, gigs, events and social media, which results to the local indie music scene becoming the talk of the season.
There are some local indie bands that are slowly coming out of the shadows, and reaching their peak towards success.
Honeydrop, formed in the Queen City of the South, is a high example of an indie band that has been slowly making it to the top of the local indie music scene. Karl Lucente and Tristram Florido founded the indie-rock, post-rock band. It is currently part of Komorebi, a Cebuano community that consists of Cebuano indie bands and Bomba Press.
Honeydrop got their musical influences from a Canadian indie rock band, Reverie Sound Revue and a post-rock band from Japan, Toe.They embrace the indie and post-rock sounds in their music and grasp musical influence from local bands they perform with such as Snubear, Sunday Sunday, KaapiN, and many more. Unlike other famous local bands, their music is not loud, but more chill and acoustic; in the end, it makes the band’s music sound unique.
The local indie music scene is not that known yet, because the indie music has not really catered the Cebuano market, but Honeydrop is an example of an indie band that is already breaking that barrier. Honeydrop is already gaining a lot of bands from their home city and across the Philippines. Locals are starting to appreciate the indie music, and Honeydrop wants to be the first to help Cebu grasp it.
From countless concerts, endless travels, equally-contributed hard work from and of course, strong passion, Honeydrop wouldn’t be what they are today, and they will still continue to rock those concert stages and carry the pride of Cebuano music with them.
Honeydrop continues to reach for the goal of the growth of indie music within Cebu, and with the success they are climbing towards to, let us see how fast indie music will grow in Cebu.
