Grand Rally 2014
The USC Commission on Elections (Comelec) held the Annual Grand Rally at the Bunzel Bldg. Engineering lobby last March 3, 2014, Monday, at around 2 in the afternoon. The rally was participated by the different election parties namely Student Power Party (SPP), Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy(STAND) and Tingog Carolinian in lieu of the upcoming SSC Elections on March 6, Thursday. The main purpose of the event is to publicly display the candidates in each party and their platforms for the Academic Year 2014-2015.
The rally kicked off with the presentation of the candidates for councilors followed by the grand presentation of the standard bearers of each party which included speeches and proposed projects for the next school year. The Vice-Presidential candidates were gathered afterwards for a forum that mainly tackled on their utmost contributions and plans if elected. A communal inquiry of ‘what is the main project of each election party and how is it essential to the Carolinian student body’ was asked to the vice-presidential candidates.
Arianne Paralisan, Tingog, made a point that a Magna Carta of the Students Rights would basically diminish the recurring school problems and issues that the students have been encountering lately.
Ken Ecarma, STAND, emphasized that strengthening student organizations inside the university would create an avenue for the students for a change and will disregard political dilemmas.
“Foreign-Filipino Partnership Program (FFPP) is one of our main projects because we believe that the products of this institution would greatly contribute outside the country”, as said by David Ybañez, SPP Vice-Presidential candidate, in reply to the question.
Afterwards, another conference among the standard bearers was adhered. Rallies and cheers of each party roared as each presidential candidates had the chance to speak up. The candidates were asked on the change they would be able to deliver to the students when elected. elected.
Nicole Ponce, Tingog’s standard bearer, explained that their projects and platforms would get the Carolinian student body ready for the next generation.
Christine Perez, presidential candidate of SPP, expounded on SPP projects as promised and their ability to make them real.
“Encouraging the students to join the masses so that walls of apathy are destroyed”, as said by Maria Gigante, Stand presidential candidate. Annotations and clarifications occurred among the candidates which mainly focused on issues about apathy, diversity, political matters and projects that particularly concerns the students.
A general colloquium followed afterwards wherein the students present at the rally participated actively in asking concerns about the political disputes among the parties, project brandings and school problems the students frequently encounter. Answers were immediately delivered and disclosed by the candidates. The rally was concluded by the Comelec at around 6 in the evening and shall be continued on March 4, Tuesday, at the Main Campus Wrocklage Yard from 1pm to 6pm.
