Buttenbruch Hall, March, 7, 2014 – The Department of Political Science, in partnership with its Public Management and Development (PMD) and Law and Policy Studies (LPS) tracks, launched a two-day event today with the theme “Mainstreaming Collaborative Governance in Cebuano Environmental Work plans”, iCollaborate seeks to involve environmental patrons based in Cebu in an event to share and discuss technical and experiential knowledge to improve environmental governance.
The main objective of the activity is to present the theories behind collaborative governance regarding environmental sustainability. It aims to engage participants in a fieldwork activity so that they are able to see firsthand environmental collaborative governance in action and allows student-participants to determine their potential areas of engagements in order to help synchronize effects for environment sustainability.
The topics covered on the first day were The Role of the Academe in Environmental Sustainability: Coastal Resource Management by Dr. Filipina B. Sotto, Ph D, The Role of the Government in Environmental Sustainability: DENR Region 7 Work Plans by Regional Executive Director of DENR-7, Mr. Isabelo R. Montejo, and The Institutional Set-up on Collaborative Government vis-à-vis Environmental Sustainability by Atty. Gloria E. Ramos, faculty of University of Cebu-Banilad College of Law.
“How can youth organizations in the academe enhance their engagements into the several environmental work plans pursued by stakeholders working outside the academe?” and “What roles and functions can student organizations in the academe do in order to help pursue synchronized efforts for Cebu’s environmental sustainability?” are among the questions which are given emphasis in the event.
Among those present in the event were Political Science students from the University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu Institute of Technology, and Cebu Normal University. A workshop was given during the latter part of the event in which the participants had a project proposal in line with the event’s theme.
