IdeaLab Holds TedxUSanCarlosWomen at SAFAD Theatre

Idea Lab, a volunteer-based organization responsible for TEDxUSC, held TedxUSanCarlosWomen during the afternoon of November 26, 2016 at the SAFAD Theatre, Talamban Campus.
Like other TEDxUSC events, TedxUSanCarlosWomen is an independently-organized TED event with the theme “It’s About Time”, in line with the worldwide theme of TEDWomen2016.
This event was organized to incorporate TED’s platform, which is to “share ideas” of women empowerment, and coordinated to promote women as game changers and help enlighten people with their points of view regarding women.
And to help with the amplification of women’s voices, four female speakers with different advocacies were invited to speak and talk about how they championed their mission as game changers.
The first speaker was Carla Garcia Jalbuna, a De La Salle- College of St. Benilde graduate. She was the first openly transgender student leader in her university and has been promoting the LGBT community through her leadership.
Jalbuna talked about what is takes to actually be a woman and how the world’s way of seeing women should be changed. A part of her speech was also regarding self-validation, especially among LGBT individuals.
The second speaker was renowned calligraphy artist AJ Tabino. She shared her journey with calligraphy and graffiti. She expressed how there are only a few girls in the “calligraffiti” community and that when one wants to, now is as good a time to start as any.
The third person who took the stage was USC graduate, adventure educator and hope warrior Sol Delantar. Her vocation included “Teaching through Empowering” and finding one’s “Positive Enduring Self Brand”.
The last woman to speak was Jona Bering, a Palanca-awarded travel writer. Her platform was about women travelling alone, and how empowering it is. With her blog “Backpacking with a Book”, she talked about how travelling alone is an initiation of finding one’s self.
The acting lead organizer, Will Perez, then concluded the event with his closing remarks.
