SSC Holds Follow-Up up Meeting on Resolutions

In a follow-up meeting from last April’s session, the university’s Supreme Student Council (SSC) conferred over the next set of resolution proposals the evening of May 8, 2015, at their Downtown Campus office. The agenda also covered updates from the council’s standing committees and the progress of their current projects.

Placing an explicitly-stated high value on transparency and communication, the council revealed their projects budget from the summer fees to be approximately PHP75,200 with all project proposals taking this into account. It was agreed that the results of a session would not be officially considered unless the secretary’s minutes of the meeting were later sent to the group and approved.

In the same vein of transparency, the minutes would be forwarded to Today’s Carolinian in an attempt to foster student awareness of the SSC’s agendas from the student publication. Further, there was significant deliberation over the best ways to reach unregistered student organizations and to in turn establish easier ways to be reached about concerns.

After discussing considerations arising from committee progress reports, the SSC moved on to four more resolution proposals.

Beginning the main order of business was the proposal of the Rules of Procedures (ROPs) that the council would be following during the upcoming school year. A revised version of last year’s ROPs was issued and approved. The ROPs left unrevised would be re-adopted, as is, by the succeeding council by default.

Brought next into focus was the Carolinian Summit, an annual leadership program for the university students, set for this June and handled by the council’s socio-cultural committee. The SSC deliberated over the budget proposal, the theme, and considerations about partners and sponsorships as well as evaluations of the last Carolinian Summit to improve on the upcoming event.

A special environmental committee was created, with members nominated and voted in. The STEM committee is intended to be a major component of this project. The SSC’s public relations committee would also be working with CGI Philippines to develop and realize online complaint forms for student feedback.

The remaining resolutions are set to be discussed in further meetings soon to follow.
