USC holds 11th Entrepreneurship Fair

Student entrepreneurs from the University of San Carlos under the BS Entrepreneurship curriculum will be delegating the 11^th three-day Entrepreneur’s Fair commencing today at the Ayala Activity Center to showcase and retail products from their own enterprises.

The Business Administration (BA) Department will be hosting the Entrepreneur’s Fair in line with the university theme, “Cleaning the Educational Slate: Testing, Launching and Piloting,” with 13 groups, composed of 134 Carolinians, participating.

In a recently-held press conference, Dr. Maria Angelita Valles, entrepreneurship cluster head and business practicum coordinator, said that product development entrepreneurs will be joining the event for the first time this semester.

Valles emphasized that the students’ engagement with the outside environment at an early stage will help them with their future plans in the business world. She also mentioned that when the event was still held inside the premises of the university, a part of the sales were given to the Balay sa Samaritano as a community extension service.

“BS Entrep[reneurship] is a unique course from the department. Other courses are only engaged in OJT’s but for this, the students have five subjects for practicum alone,” said Dr. Roberto Visitacion, marketing cluster head. BS Entrepreneurship students have to go through Entrep 41 – Entrep 45 to comply all the necessary requirements to graduate.

“The best advantage a student can get in this Entrep Fair is building contacts. Through this, I was able to make connections with Lexmark and City Sports Center,” said Kristian Cabahug – from the entrepreneurship cluster faculty.

Cabahug was a delegate himself in the past Entrepreneur’s Fair. His business involving “eco-friendly” bags made use of old tarpaulins and is still currently operating, providing income to housewives and unemployed adults.

The licensed businesses this semester all center on food and beverages. They include the following: Quenchers, Wraps, “Bananarific”, “Purifico”, Ice Shots, Grounded and Pounded, One-Sixth Dairy Products, Double Blast Delights, Veterans “Veggie” Bread, Everything Bacon, “Fujinoya”, East West Cuisine and 6075 Café. Each will have booths to be stationed at the venue.

The proponents of each team had to go through several licensing processes in the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Social Security System (SSS) and in their respective barangay and city halls.
