USC Celebrates U-NITE 2015
Starting the first week of the year with a bang, students gathered in the TC Covered Court for U-NITE 2015, held on January 9 in the afternoon and evening.
U-NITE, or University Nite, is a party for a cause spearheaded by the Supreme Student Council to feature various Carolinian talents and to raise funds for community extension services. Now on its third run, this year’s U-Nite commemorated the theme “Unleash the Warrior” to further foster the Warrior spirit of the Carolinian community.
The event commenced in the late afternoon with acoustic performances by Michael Cadavero and Angelo Daroy, GL Casinillo and Patricia Valena, Stanley Cabahug, and Acoustic Ears by Nikki Shan.
The night was started by bands rocking the stage, such as Touche, Switch Case, Shuffled, Ginsync, Three-Legged Men and Large Dave. Famous local band Missing Filemon and Carolinian pride Drop Decay also played their own songs, pushing the audience to rise from their seats and run to dance below the stage.
Performances by Engineering dance group Kinesyx and celebrated beatboxer GMTFX also graced the event.
DJ Gino and Gio Visitacion, the main acts of the night, continued the party through their much-anticipated rave.
In the middle of the performances, the USC–Commission on Elections (COMELEC) introduced the Service Starts Now campaign for this year’s Supreme Student Council Elections, urging the Carolinians to assert their rights as students through voting.
At the end of the event, the audience moved to the TC soccer field to gather around a bonfire, built to pay tribute to the Warrior athletes that brought pride to the university. Representatives from the Warriors basketball team were there to witness the honorary activity, which was accented with a fire dance number by Grupo Capoeira de Elemento.
Just like the previous U-Nite events, U-NITE 2015 ended with a fireworks display over the soccer field.
This year’s U-NITE was previously scheduled on Dec. 5 last year, but was postponed to Jan. 9 due to the arrival of Typhoon Ruby in the country.
