USC SSC, JPMAP host UNIVCEBU Bootcamp 2017
The University of San Carlos Supreme Student Council (USC-SSC), together with the Junior People Management Association of the Philippines (JPMAP) hosted the UNIVCEBU BOOTCAMP 2017 at the university’s Downtown Campus last July 28-29, 2017, which focused on project management and improvement of leadership skills.
Kahlil Corazo, the speaker of the Boot Camp, is the founder of Leadfunnel.ph and has been training students for several years on leadership and management. During the seminar, he talked about project management and its essential phases, namely: planning, monitoring, initiating, executing, and closing activities.
The day began with introductions and participants getting comfortable with each other. Shortly after the introductions, the participants were tasked to answer the questions provided on manila papers pasted around the room, which was then discussed by the speaker.
Corazo ended the morning portion of the Boot Camp with a group activity on plotting milestones when planning project events. Participants were split into two groups to gather ideas. Moreover, this gave them the chance to interact freely and put into practice what had been discussed.
After a quick lunch break, the workshop resumed with a brief game to break the ice. Once everyone had settled down, the speaker delved into the second phase of his discussion, which focused on Project Management Quality. He highlighted the importance of planning in detail and appropriate designation of tasks when managing events.
Afterwards, the speaker had the attendees complete a questionnaire called: “How Habitual You Are”, in preparation for the second day of discussion on Habit Formation. Deeming the questions personal, he instructed the group to use codenames in lieu of their real ones.
The rest of the first day’s program continued with in depth discussions on developing effective Project Communication Management; activities were utilised as topic plenaries to ensure understanding. Due to the rather small number of participants, the speaker was able to carry one-on-one conversations with each person, which allowed the students participating the opportunity to get the most out of the workshop.
The second day of the Boot Camp opened with a workshop on Project Quality Management and was followed by presentations focusing on Human Resource Management. Once the participants had their noon break, Corazo then touched on the topic of Integration Management, and finally, finishing with a talk on Student Leadership to round up the event.
The UNIVCEBU BOOTCAMP 2017 was able to give the University of San Carlos college students and senior high school students a valued and informative experience through its two-day program.
