USC Theatre Guild holds press conference for upcoming play
The University of San Carlos Theatre Guild held a press conference last August 17, 2014, to promote an upcoming stage play entitled “Imahe at Karangalan” directed by Alfe Marie Latras. The entire event is solely organized by students of the University of San Carlos.
The press conference was attended by the event sponsors and media partners.
The play consists of two stories namely “Hagdan sa Bahaghari” by Amado V. Hernandez and “Moses, Moses” by Rogelio Sikat, both of which having the underlying theme of social judgment.
“Hagdan sa Bahaghari” is about a reputable girl named Victoria Santi who got pregnant and was disgraced by society despite her social status. The agony of the unfolding events leads her to run away from home as she discovers more and more about what’s happening around her.
“Moses, Moses” tells the story of a widowed teacher whose child was raped by the mayor. It is a tale of a mother’s adversity of going up against a higher authority to defend her family’s honor and to stand up for her beloved child.
According to the organizers, the play is named “Imahe at Karangalan” because of how the plots revolve around the characters’ concern for image and reputation which reflect their own principles.
“Imahe at Karangalan” premieres at SM Cinema 1 on August 30-31, 2014. Tickets are sold at Php 150.00 per person.
