Patricia Valeña; a Musical Soul
“When you sing, always offer it to the persons who contributed a lot of who you are today.” – Patricia Valeña
X factor Bootcamp finalist, 2011 Himig Pinoy Grand Champion, 2011 APPSAM Vocal solo competition- 1st runner up, Let’s speak Bossa vocalist – these are only a glimpse of Valencia’s achievements. This promising songstress is currently taking up BS Psychology in University of San Carlos (USC) where she is noted for her classic and unique genre of music. Patricia, or “Pat” as she is known, has been performing for programs organized by different student organizations inside and outside USC.
During her younger years, Pat struggled to find the genre of music that she believes will definitely win the hearts of her listeners. In some of her elementary singing competitions, Patricia rarely placed because of the unfitting melody that the judges couldn’t appreciate. Because of that dilemma, Patricia thought of incorporating her style to songs that would fit her voice which were usually unidentified in the mainstream. Though it was tough, she continued to pursue her aim: to bring out the best of her for her family and for the people who believed in her.
Her perseverance as a singer made its peak during her high school years at USC – South campus. People started to acknowledge her singing as she sang during their monthly Eucharistic celebrations. Carolinians from both the administration and the students paid heed to her as she bloomed her way into greater potential. The school then offered her numerous singing opportunities in both competitions and performances during which she emerged as champion for the Himig Pinoy 2011 high school division. At the same time, she also won 1st runner up at the2011 APPSAM vocal solo competition, a national level contest.
In 2012, Pat auditioned for ABS-CBN’s X Factor franchise. During the live auditions, she got 4 affirmatives from Martin Nieverra, Pilita Corales, Gary Valenciano and Charice Pempengco. This moved her to the ‘Bootcamp’ round where all aspiring artists who passed the live auditions battle again.
“Being in the music scene is beyond pressure,” Patricia said. “It’s a mix of choice that you battle for every second of your career. You set priorities which come along with a lot of sacrifices. But as you go along, you’ll see the beauty of it; that singing focuses not only on the vocal technicalities but also the perseverance of a dreamer to capture his/her dream.”
“For aspiring singers, as early as now, you need to go out of your comfort zones. Explore a lot about yourself, your voice and your craft.” – Patricia Valeña
