SSC Lays Down Activities for A.Y. 2017–2018

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) held its second regular session from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. of May 19, 2017 at its office in Downtown Campus. The session’s objective was to present reports on SSC’s committees and to discuss different resolutions for the incoming semester.
The chairpersons of each committee presented their reports on their respective committee’s plans, actions, and recommendations in an activity that the SSC were to take part of. Various plans were introduced to the floor, such as proposing a campus tour for visiting foreign students and enabling the SSC to reach out to the students as close as possible.
One topic which was discussed thoroughly was complaints received by the Complaint, Grievances, and Investigation Committee. All sorts of complaints were raised such as the exclusion of the practicum grades in the grade point average, the inconsistent application of university rules and regulations, the suspension of promissory notes and questionable miscellaneous fees.
“Remember, we are here to serve the students. That’s one of the reasons why we were elected to be here”, said SSC President Deodatus Burgos in one of his reminders. The council emphasized on the different complaints of the students, as the council was designed to be for the students of the University.
Refunds for different university activities were also discussed by the Finance Committee. As of now, the SSC has an estimate of PHP 98,000.00 in their funds. They aim for complete transparency in all their endeavors.
Onwards, they discussed various resolutions and plans for academic year 2017 – 2018. One of which was the creation of a committee on Student Rights and Welfare (STRAW) in the council. This was designed to fully enforce the magna carta for students, in which they would provide a task force known as Task Force Magna Carta to protect students’ rights and overall welfare while residing in the university. A revision of the Carolinian Volunteers was also discussed for the improvement of the cause.
Another resolution was a plan to organize the incoming Week of Welcome to help returnees, transferees, and old students to get in tuned with “university life” after the summer break.
Furthermore, a resolution on Sanitary Assessment and Food Examination was appointed to maintain cleanliness and to avoid students from being a victim of food poisoning.
The SSC is expected to hold more sessions which will be simulcast over Facebook live and related social media as the school year progresses.
