The popular and phenomenal CBS Television Sitcom show How I Met Your Mother is coming into its ninth and final season and the titular “Mother” has been revealed! HIMYM, as it is popularly abbreviated, is entrenched deep into the hearts and minds of many fans who follow the series and all the quirks it comes along with it. This TV Series has been part of the many laughs and moments of so many people worldwide. Even the music they feature gets so much attention. Take a look at some music videos on YouTube and you’ll find songs like The Shins’ Port of Morrow or The 80’s The Kinks’ Victoria are scribbled all over with comments that have HIMYM referred to as what brought them there and they get absorbed into the songs and soon they start listening to the artists and become fans and even listening to their other works.

Victoria and Ted were a prominent couple in the series, being together in the very beginning breaking up only to reunite later on in the series only to break up again. This song in the seventh season reintroduced her. Whatever the case, Victoria the song is something to listen to. This song is from the band’s album Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire. It is a playful satire on the 19th Century conditions of the British Empire and the Victoria referred to the song is no other than Her Majesty herself. The lyrics are a fun and somehow joyful presentation of the Victorian Age that has its high and low points.  It presents the grim and glory coexisted at the time. The music itself is playful and upbeat and goes so well with the lyrics. Versed in history or not, this song is definitely interesting and energizing.

This song played when Ted and Robin got together and Marshall and Lily broke up. This song is from The Bloc Party’s debut album Silent Alarm. It starts off slow with a clear escalation in intensity and speed without overdoing it. The lyrics is a reflection of uncertainty of a relationship which is a perfect fit in that episode. The song itself can stir up the feelings of uncertainty and the rush of emotions with the use of the good tandem of lyrics and tune. “What are you holding out for? What’s always in the way? Why so damn absent-minded? Why so scared of romance?” – The lyrics pretty much sums up the feelings of entering or leaving a relationship.

3.I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers (S02E17)

Imagine yourself on a road trip and your music player could only play one song, what song would that be? In the case of Marshall’s car, 500 miles of the song 500 miles is a pretty good song to be stuck with. The song has that cheerful beat to it, it provokes an adventurous spirit that could possibly push you to take that extra mile “just to be the man who walked a thousand mile to fall down at your door” for that special someone. This song is from the Sunshine on Leith album with a 1988 original version and a 2007 rerecorded version of this song.

4.Simple Song – The Shins (S08E24)

This the song that accompanies the revelation of the titular Mother of the show. This song, to those who watched the eighth season finale might get have the images of the last minutes of the episode. Simple Song is carries with it a rising and charged melody along with a lyrics that spells out the need for reassurance and confidence in the face of uncertainty, so long as you are with the person or people you love. The lyrics go: “I know that things can really get rough when you go it alone. Don’t go thinking you gotta be tough, to play like a stone. Could be there’s nothing else in our lives so critical as this little home!”

5.Hey Beautiful – The Solids

One of the most memorable songs of the series, being the theme. Happy and just uplifting, this song can be said to be anthem of the series while being a really fun song in itself. It is a song of risk and courage to get the desired, to call out and say “Hey beautiful, I seen you comin’. Oh no you don’t walk away from me.” Singing this song and ending with a lot of “pa pa pa’s” to the tune of the song is also one of the fun things about this song.
